But do they actually work?

Many researchers have expressed doubts regarding the effectiveness of this method. First of all, hormones are very difficult to extract from living organisms, much less manufacture. This is also the reason why many doctors prefer breast milk over formula – breast milk contains vital hormones passed from mother to her infant. These hormones, which are manufactured within the mother’s body, cannot be easily reproduced in formula.

Next, 100% of creams do not actually penetrate the skin. A large percentage actually evaporates, leaving just a thin residue on the skin. Though a small percentage does get absorbed by the skin, an even smaller percentage actually gets past the breast’s fat and muscle tissues and into the blood stream. By then this miniscule amount makes a very small difference, if at all.

If not for the phytoestrogens, some of these breast enlargement creams contain collagen and Vitamin E, which is good for promoting skin elasticity for a smoother and firmer texture. But the thing is, for it to be effective, both collagen and Vitamin E should be taken orally. If applied topically, they will only be rendered useless as only few of these compounds will get past the skin, muscle and fatty tissue.

First of all, teenagers’ bodies are still under developed. This means that teenagers have not yet reached their sexual maturity therefore breasts are still beginning to develop. Who knows, as soon as they have reached college or their early twenties, they would have developed full breasts, making the “need” for breast implants irrelevant. They (or their parents) would have saved thousands of dollars in the long run.

Second, all breast implants are temporary. Sooner or later, they would break or leak and a follow up surgery to fix the implant would have to be performed. The younger you are to have this surgery done, the more instances the implants would leak. It is estimated that an implant lasts for an average of 10 years. If a teenager has had her breasts fixed, she may need to go under the knife for the implant 3 more times.

Third, general anaesthesia is administered to a patient undergoing breast surgery. General anaesthesia in itself carries enough risks aside from the risk of the surgery itself. There is a possibility that a portion of the body will lose sensation permanently if the general anaesthesia is not administered properly. There is also a risk of selective amnesia on the part of the patient as memory loss is one of the side effects of general anaesthesia.

All in all, having breast implants as a teenager only distorts her idea of confidence and security. Teenagers are adults in the making and should enjoy life as they can and not worry about what other people think of themselves. Teenagers should find comfort in being happy for how they look like naturally.

The idea of performing an invasive procedure to increase breast size started as early as the 1890’s. Paraffin wax was injected into the site but this process was quickly abandoned as the substance leaked to other parts of the body. Meanwhile, during the 1920’s, a fat transplant was carried out in which fat from other parts of the body was transferred to the breast. This too, remained unpopular as the breasts returned to its normal size after a few months. In the spring of 1962, surgeons Frank Gerow and Thomas Cronin performed the first breast augmentation using a silicon implant. Their first patient was a lady who came in to have a tattoo to be removed from her breast. She agreed to volunteer for this procedure and later on was getting looks and whistles from men. She enjoyed the additional attention though there was some discomfort on her part at first – she experienced pain for the first 4 days of the operation. Eventually the pain subsided and she was able to go about her normal routine.

In 1963, Gerow and Cronin unveiled their creation and presented this new advancement in Cosmetic Surgery to the International Society of Plastic Surgeons which was held in Washington DC. From there, the procedure skyrocketed. New advancements and improvements were made.

To date there are over 1.5million women who have undergone breast augmentation. That is 1.5million women who sought improvement for themselves and were able to find it.

Consider the cost of the breast enhancement. This includes the costs of the procedure and any other costs that you might have to incur in future if any. Costs range from thousands of dollars for surgery to a couple hundred dollars for buying pills and creams.

The effectiveness of the enhancement procedure is another factor to consider. Not all breast enhancement methods guarantee success. This is more so for the pills and creams where scams aren’t uncommon. You therefore need to so a thorough research when approaching a method before selecting it.

Consider also potential side effects that can come with using a particular method. Surgery has often been linked to a number of side effects. However, with the different advances in medicine, these are minimal. Side effects aren’t restricted to surgery only. Pills and creams might contain ingredients which can cause side effects. It is therefore important that you consult your doctor before buying any of these.

You should also think about your goals in terms of how you would want your breasts to look like after the procedure is complete. This is because only surgery can be able to give you the size you want. As for the pills, creams and devices, other factors such as your body’s adaptation to the procedure will play a big role.

Finally consider the permanence of the procedure. For example, if you want just a temporary thing, buying enhancement pads would be best. If however you want permanent enlargement, the other methods will apply.

Many women go for breast enlargement for both aesthetic and psychological reasons. Studies conducted in this area have shown that many of the women who opt for breast enlargement have low self esteem. If the surgery isn’t done well, damage to the nerves and mammary ducts can result in difficulty in breast feeding. Although doctors say that this is unlikely, you need to think about this when selecting the surgical procedure to undergo.
